‘Pirate’ killed in RAB ‘gunfight’ in Sirajganj
By Bangladesh Media, A suspected pirate was allegedly killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion in Sirajganj sadar early Friday. The deceased was Asadul Islam, 35, son of Abdur Rashid, a resident of Bhuapur upazila in Tangail district.
A team of RAB-12 of Tangail, led by its camp commander Mohiuddin Faruqui, conducted a drive at an embankment of Water Development Board at Morgram around 3:45am. Md. Hasibul Alam, camp commander of RAB-12 crime prevention special branch in Sirajganj, said they had a tip-off that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery in the area. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang of robbers opened fire at them prompting the battalion personal to retaliate, he claimed.At one stage of the gunfight, the robbers retreated from the spot and Asadul was found bullet-wounded, said RAB official. Asadul was taken to Sirajganj General Hospital where physicians declared him dead.
The RAB personnel claimed that they have recovered a pistol along with bullets and three machetes from the spot. Asadul had been accused of 15 cases including that robbery, murder and rape filed with different Sirajganj and Tangail police Stations.
