3 'criminals' killed in shootouts

 RAB Demanded that they are 'Criminal'.

By Bangladesh Media; Three alleged criminals were killed in separate incidents of shootout between their cohorts and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the city yesterday and early today.

Rab sources said two criminals aged around 20 to 25 years opened fire at a Rab check post at Manik Mia Avenue as Rab members intercepted them around 12:30am today when they walked past the check post. The Rab men also fired back leaving the two unknown youths dead on the spot, Rab sources said. The elite force recovered two revolvers and four rounds of bullet from the spot.

Earlier, another criminal was killed and a Rab member sustained bullet injury during a shootout between the elite force and his cohorts in the city's Mohakhali area early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Liton, 25, ringleader of Panku group in Mohakhali area while constable Saiful of Rab-1 sustained injuries. Rab members recovered a pistol and three bullets from the spot
Liton was accused in five criminal cases including murder, abduction and extortion with Gulshan and Tejgaon industrial area police stations, Rab sources said. Quoting locals, Rab said cadres of Shaheen and Mintu Babu groups locked in a gun battle over sharing extortion money.

On information, a team of Rab rushed to the spot and came under fire prompting them to retaliate. Major Sumon Ahmed of Rab-1 told The Daily Star that the criminals opened fire on the Rab team when they chased the two feuding groups in front of T&T Women's College in Mohakhali around 4:00am.

After the gun battle Liton's bullet-ridden body was found lying on the spot while his cohorts managed to flee, Rab sources said, adding that during the battle constable Saiful received a bullet in his right knee. Saiful took treatment at Combined Military Hospital, sources added.
